A woman was hacked to death in broad daylight by her husband on Wednesday afternoon near the Sub-Registrar’s office at Sriram Nagar here.

The woman, identified as Sameera, 20, was attacked with a knife on her neck and suffered several cut injuries on her face and hands. The victim’s wrist was visibly cut off from her left hand in the brutal attack. The weapon used in the attack was a butcher’s knife which was recovered by the police from the crime scene.

According to the police, Sameera and Dadavath Srinivas, 30, were married for the past nine months, after their first marriages came to an early end.

Following a misunderstanding between the two, the victim wanted to leave Srinivas and go to her parent’s place. After she boarded an auto rickshaw with her packed bags, Srinivas pulled her out from the vehicle and attacked her with the knife, the police said.

The victim died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Area Hospital for post-mortem and the alleged murderer, Srinivas, is on the run from the police.

Circle Inspector (Rural) Praveen Kumar is investigating the case.
