Heavy rains battered many parts of the district for the third consecutive day on Friday disrupting vehicular traffic, causing water logging and hampering coal production.

A part of the portico of the century-old British era building housing the Mandal Revenue Office and Sub-Treasury Office in Yellendu collapsed in the early hours of the day owing to overnight heavy downpour.

However, none were injured in the incident.

The Kinnerasani dam in Palvancha mandal, Taliperu reservoir in Charla mandal, Peddavagu reservoir in Aswaraopeta mandal are filled to the brim.

Heavy volume of surplus water is being discharged from the three reservoirs downstream.

The water level in the Palair balancing reservoir in Kusumanchi mandal rose up to 18.2 feet.

Incessant downpour over the past two days has disrupted coal production in Manuguru and other areas in Kothagudem region, resulting in a production loss of more than 50,000 tonnes, sources said.

Gundala mandal in Kothagudem division bore the brunt of incessant heavy rains as the swollen forest streams inundated low-lying culverts in some places in the mandal cutting off road link to several remote tribal habitations.
