Haritha Haram: people participate voluntarily

Warangal West MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar offers a sapling each to women as part of the programme

The flagship programme of the State government, Haritha Haram, is in full swing in the district with not just officials and elected representatives taking part in it, but people voluntarily planting saplings to increase green cover here.

On the day of the launch of the programme’s second phase on July 8, the district administration had ensured planting of 13 lakh saplings while on July 9, as many as nine lakh saplings were planted.

Seven lakh saplings planted

On Sunday, a total of seven lakh saplings were planted all over the district.

District Collector Vakati Karuna, Mayor N. Narender and MLAs D. Vinay Bhaskar and K. Surekha have been leading the programme at the district headquarters. City Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu and Superintendent of Police A.K. Jha and DIG T. Prabhakar Rao have been taking part in the programme at various places. Warangal West MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar’s initiative of going around residential areas offering a plant each to women received good response. On Sunday, the members of Hanuman Nagar Phase-I Colony Welfare Association undertook a massive plantation drive at the colony as part of Haritha Haram. Association honorary president M. Shankar Narayana, president K. Srinivas Reddy and others took part while Traffic ACP Venkateswar Rao was the chief guest. They all planted about 500 saplings on the occasion.

Appreciating the gesture of the colony welfare association, Mr. Venkateswara Rao said that Haritha Haram was not just aimed at improving forest cover, but also to increase green cover in residential areas.
