Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal, who adopted Gundlapally village under Grama Jyothi programme, provided several facilities in the past few months with the help of donors.
Initially, he established a mini-library at S.C. Community, which remained unused for a decade, after knowing that many youth from the village were preparing for various competitive examinations. Since the village has been facing drinking water shortage for quite some time, Mr. Duggal with the help of some donors decided to set up a reverse osmosis water plant. Inspired by the work of the top cop, the village sarpanch Panasa Shankar Goud donated Rs. 1.05 lakh, while Gattupalli Karthik Reddy gave Rs 1.30 lakh and the rest was contributed by the Police officers. The police personnel along with the villagers filled up a huge unused open agriculture well by transporting about 300 loads of soil. The sarpanch said that the well used to pose danger to the villagers. They also removed bushes along the roads as youth came forward voluntarily to work with the police personnel. To protect the saplings planted as part of "Haritha Haram" programme, Mr.Duggal brought some tree guards from Gujarat by spending Rs. 40,000. With the help of district administration, the SP and his team ensured the construction of 100 per cent Individual Household Latrines. Lands have ben identified for dumping yard and grave yard while a donor came forward to donate three guntas of land in the heart of Gundlapally to construct a new Panchyat building. Mr. Duggal had visited the village 15 times in the past eight months while the Sub Inspector of Nalgonda Rural Police station made 50 visits.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Duggal said that it is the first good step in bringing a change in people. “We are planning to improve the agriculture productivity of the village by introducing best farm technology. Improving the skill base of youth and women by offering various skill enhancement programmes is also on the list, Mr.Duggal said. Not to say, the crime rate came down in the village as expected by the Police.
