October 01, 2014 01:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:10 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The government of Telangana has decided to issue certificates to all the farmers who are being benefited under the loan waiver scheme so that they can rightfully approach the bankers seeking fresh loans.

The proposal to issue such certificates was put forward by the officials’ committee on loan waiver and was okayed by the Chief Minister. A pro forma of the certificate was also finalised for the purpose.

The certificates to be issued by Tahsildars would tell the farmers about the extent of loan waived immediately after the release of necessary amount to the bankers by the government, the extent of fresh loan they were eligible for based on the enhanced scale of finance and also assuring them that the government would take the responsibility to repay the outstanding loan amount with the upper limit being Rs. 1 lakh. Asked as to what extent the farmers were issued fresh crop loans by banks after the release Rs. 4,250 crore by the government as the first instalment of waiver amount, official sources said it would be known only after the bankers furnish details.

Shabbir’s charge

Meanwhile, Congress MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir said at a press conference that the accounts of farmers who borrowed crop loans from various banks were not credited with the amount promised to be met by Telangana government by Tuesday.

The government recently announced that it will deposit 25 per cent of the loans borrowed by farmers with a ceiling of Rs. 1 lakh by September 30 to enable them to avail crop insurance and also not face 12 per cent penal interest. They will also not be eligible to seven per cent interest subsidy on loans if the deadline expired.
