Govt. not serious about ‘shaadi mubarak’: TPCC

November 09, 2014 02:44 am | Updated 02:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has accused the TRS government of being non-serious about the implementation of the ‘shaadi mubarak’ scheme whereby financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 is given to poor Muslim girls on their marriage.

Speaking after a meeting of minorities’ leaders of Congress here on Saturday, TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and vice-president Mohd. Ali Shabbir said even the helpline and website created by the State government were not fully operational. The government had issued guidelines in September and the scheme was to be implemented from October 2. The TPCC leaders said they would organise a minorities’ convention here on November 23 to discuss the problems of the community, promises made by the TRS government and alliance with other parties, including Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), for the forthcoming GHMC elections.
