Protesting against the government for taking up the Bill with amendments to Land Acquisition Act – 2013 in the Assembly on Sunday, the farmers and villagers of Vemulaghat burnt the government in effigy.

They demanded that State government should implement Land Acquisition Act – 2013 instead of amending LA Act – 2016 that was passed by the Assembly.

“Why can’t the State government implement LA Act – 2013 passed by Parliament, why has it been trying to circumvent it and implement LA Act – 2016? What is the hidden agenda?” asked one Srinivas Reddy, one of the farmers of the village. The villagers suspect that the government may implement the provisions of the revised Act to enable it to curtail the benefits that were due to farmers under the LA Act – 2013. They expressed apprehensions on provisions like fixation of market value.

Vemulaghat in Toguta mandal is the only village in Telangana that has been fighting for the last 300 days for implementation of LA Act – 2013.
