Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan urged the State Government to develop at least one village in each constituency on the lines of Ibrahimpur, and pass a resolution in this regard in the Assembly.

Participating in the Haritha Haram programme held in this village on Friday, the Governor planted saplings and interacted with the villagers. He was impressed with toilets and soak pits built in every household and was in praise of the greenery in the village, sans mosquitoes.

“There are mosquitoes even at Raj Bhavan,” he quipped. “Whether Golden Telangana becomes a reality is not known, but I see a village on those lines and this is made possible with the involvement of people. I feel proud to be here,” he said, adding that a visit to this village was a learning experience.

Patting Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Collector D. Ronlad Rose on their efforts in developing the village as a model for the entire State, he said solar power would come to the village in the next three or four months. “Mr. Harish Rao is dynamic leader who completes whatever he takes up,” said the Governor adding that if all villages adopt Ibrahimpur model, the results would be excellent.

The meeting was presided over by village sarpanch Lakshmi. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Harish Rao said that unity among villagers was the reason for the success. “You are an inspiration to all. Today we have planted another 1.05 lakh saplings,” said Mr. Rao.

Later, interacting with elected representatives, Mr. Narasimhan said that sarpanches have to shed politics and take up welfare activities. He said that he would visit the village in December and get the data on survival rate of plants.

Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy, Lok Sabha members K. Prabhakar Reddy, B.B. Patil and others participated in the programme.
