The flood situation remained grim in Bhadrachalam division on Tuesday with the Godavari and its tributaries, including Taliperu, in spate disrupting road connectivity between Bhadrachalam and Venkatapuram and elsewhere in the Agency areas.
While the swollen Godavari continued to flow close to the danger mark of 53 feet at Bhadrachalam, the backwaters of the river entered several houses at Ayyappa Colony in the temple town, prompting the revenue officials to shift 18 families to the relief camp set up near the R&B office.
The bathing ghats on the banks of the river and the low-lying areas including Vista complex abutting the flood protection bund continued to remain under sheets of water in the temple town.
The water level in the Godavari stood at 52.4 feet at Bhadrachalam at 8 p.m. The flood level is likely to remain static for the next couple of hours, sources in the Irrigation department said.
