February 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - KHAMMAM:

A four-month-old baby girl, Niharika, was found dead in the water tank of her house under suspicious circumstances in Kallur town on Saturday morning.

The police suspect that the baby was smothered to death before being dumped in the water tank by some “insiders”. She was the second daughter of K. Suman and Nidhi of Bommarillu Colony in Kallur. Nidhi originally hails from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Suman fell in love with Nidhi while studying B.Tech in Agra and married her against his mother’s wish over five years ago. There were strained relations between Nidhi and her mother-in-law Padmavathi since then. Nidhi’s mother-in-law allegedly started pestering her for dowry ever since the former gave birth to second girl child four months ago, sources added. The Kallur police have registered a case and are investigating.
