: Y. Manasa (15), an SSC student, died and her two sisters — Mamata and Sarasa — were hospitalised after consuming noodles and a soft drink in Ambedkar Nagar at Yenamalakuduru in the city on Tuesday.

While the girl’s family members alleged that Manasa and her sisters fell sick after consuming the noodles and soft drink, police and doctors of the government hospital attributed it to sunstroke. Police said a case under Section 174 CrPC was registered but it could be changed to death from sunstroke.

Neighbours said the parents —Vijay Kumar, a tailor and Anitha— went out leaving them in the house. The girls went out for a while and bought a noodles packet, cooked and consumed it. Later, they consumed a soft drink brought by their friends. Locals rushed them to the Government General Hospital after the trio complained of giddiness and nausea. Manasa was later shifted to a private hospital where she died. Her sisters recovered and they were discharged.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) L.K.V. Ranga Rao said as per the doctor’s report, the girls suffered sunstroke. The Penamaluru police seized the leftover noodles and sent the samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad for examination.

East Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) B. Vijay Bhaskar said a team of doctors conducted post-mortem on Manasa’s body and as per the preliminary report of forensic officials, she died of a blood clot in the brain owing to sunstroke.

“Forensic doctors, who examined the viscera samples of Manasa, found low quantity of noodles and felt the death was not due to food poisoning. The shop from where the girls purchased the noodles packet has been identified,” the ACP said.
