With good rains forecast this year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is gearing up to tackle it by making its official machinery aware of the tasks to be taken up now and the works ahead.
Apart from the regular pre-monsoon de-silting of the storm water drains or nalas, the municipal corporation has identified several potholes and water-logging points across the twin cities with the assistance of other civic departments like the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the traffic police.
It has proposed to form 48 teams with vehicles, labour and tools to work round the clock to exclusively concentrate on potholes repair. There will also be about 121 special monsoon teams also armed with pumps, vehicles and tree cutters to tackle any emergency situation, according to Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.
Besides, two-member labour teams are to be stationed round the clock at 51 identified locations. In any case, the civic body has its own traditional central emergency teams - 19 of them equipped with 40 pump sets.
As many as 234 water stagnation points have been marked and among them 27 were found to be in critical areas of which repair works were done in 10. Similarly, of the 74 major water logging points 43 were repaired whereas 79 of the 133 minor water-logging points were repaired.
Drains de-silting works are also happening at 300 places across the twin cities at a total cost of ₹27.84 crore and it has to be completed by month end.
