Deputy IG of Police Yedla Gangadhar who is also in-charge of the Nizamabad police range comprising the district and Medak is known for his for people-friendly policing.

The police officer who reviewed the law and order situation and crime investigation in the district spoke to P. RAM MOHAN , on various inititiatives of his department:

What are the reforms you want to bring about in the district police machinery?

Friendly-policing is my top most priority. Police must behave with respect whoever comes to the police station. There should not be any room for misbehaviour and highhandedness. They must also promptly respond to petitioners.

When are the ‘She Teams’ likely to be set up in district headquarters?

The teams would be constituted as soon as additional women police join duty. They will be moving in plainclothes at public places to act swiftly and nab miscreants who harass women in public places. With this, the crime against women will come down drastically.

How best are the AR Constabulary used in law and order, given that they are excessively engaged for VIP security?

As of now there’s no problem due to staff shortage. Their services are primarily used to take under-trials to courts and they are not used for law and order maintenance and VIP security. We adjust them on priority basis.

What arrangements are being planned for the smooth conduct of Pushkaralu?

Apart from the police personnel, we are planning to avail the services of volunteers such as engineering students, NCC cadets and NSS workers during the Godavari pushkaralu. The police personnel and the volunteers will be used for controlling the huge influx of pilgrims expected for the event. They will streamline queues, vehicle parking besides manning the traffic, VIP security, assisting the aged and children, women protection, crime control and prevention of pick-pocketing, emergency services and so on.

What suggestions you would like to make to district police for traffic regulation in Nizamabad?

A proper and scientific study and analysis need to be made on the subject and efforts are on in that direction.

There should not be any room for misbehaviour and highhandedness. Police must promptly respond to petitioners
