Four gang rape accused arrested in Warangal

Four persons accused in a gang rape were arrested by the police here on Wednesday.

Warangal Deputy Superintendent of Police M.S. Surendranath said they took into custody Byrapati Rajkumar aka Billa (23), Gandam Ravi (21), Kadem Narasimha (24) and Vanarasi Laxmi Narayana (38) of Balajinagar, Warangal.

G. Ravi is a degree final year student, Rajkumar is working as a contract sanitary worker with the GWMC and the other two are porters (hamalis) at the Enumamula grain market.

Speaking to newsmen, the DSP said the accused committed the crime while the woman was with her associate at Desaipet on March 27. The accused persons had also thrashed the victim’s associate and threatened them of dire consequences when the victim tried to resist their attempt.

However, some youths, who were playing cricket near the place of incident rushed to spot hearing the cries of the victim’s associate and rescued the woman. The accused fled to Vemulawada in Karimnagar district. Later, they came to Annaram Shareef. After learning that police were searching for them, they tried to surrender themselves with the help of locals.
