Residents of Warangal heaved a sigh of relief as floodwater started receding whereas the city received very little rain on Saturday.

A total of 6,000 people were evacuated from low-lying areas in several colonies and were shifted to different function halls and temples – the temporary rehabilitation centres.

Police, revenue, municipal and other departments worked together in distributing food packets to flood-affected people.

The situation remained grim even on Saturday at many colonies as they remained submerged. Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha toured Shanti Nagar, Sakarasi Kunta, Siva Nagar, Masiah Ngar, Padma nagar, Doctors’ Colony and called on people who are in distress.

City Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu visited Sammaiah Nagar and adjoining colonies which were inundated and distributed food packets to people.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari held a review meeting at the District Collector Office where he asked the officials to ensure people’s comfort at rehabilitation centres. He instructed the Medical Department officials to be alert and conduct free medical camps once the normalcy returns.

He said a total of 66 tanks were breached in the district while banks of four tanks were cut off due to heavy rain.

MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar toured Jawarhar Nagar, Sammaiah Nagar, Amaravati Nagar and others areas and interacted with people. These colonies still remain submerged in floodwaters.
