Five units at Jurala commence power generation

With heavy inflows into Jurala reservoir after opening of crest gates of dams on upper reaches, the project authorities on Wednesday commenced hydel generation by operating five out of six units to produce a total of 195 MW. The remaining one unit was also likely to go critical later in the evening.

Jurala received 1.05 lakh cusecs while 34,250 cusecs was impounded by hydel generation. The water level in the dam was 317 mts against the full reservoir level of 318.5 mts and storage 8.74 tmcft. It took two days for water to reach Jurala after heavy discharge from Narayanpur dam in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, agricultural operations picked up speed due to rains in the last two days in Telangana. However, the rainfall was deficit in all the districts of the State.

Agriculture officers said paddy transplantations were in progress under assured irrigation sources. The application of fertilizer had started in rainfed crops. The sowings lagged behind till now due to inactive monsoon. They added that the sowings were taken up on 26.068 lakh hectares against the normal of 29.21 lakh hectares as on date.
