Six members of a family, including two children, allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide early this morning at Mamillagadda village near Suryapet, Telangana, the police reported. The police suspect financial problems as the reason behind the suicides.
According to the police, the family of Kasthuri Janardhan, a BSNL employee, committed suicide by consuming pesticide mixed in a soft drink early this morning owing to pressure from financiers. The police identified the scene at their residence at around 7 a.m.
The victims were identified as Kasthuri Janardhan (55), the head of the family, his wife Chandrakala (50), his second son Ashok (25), daughter-in-law Prabhata (30), and her children Siri (5) and Rithvik (2).
“Preliminary findings say that his eldest son Suresh, who owned a computers store, invested heavily in the stock market and saw losses running into huge amounts. He was also cheated by an agency that promised him a secure job,” Circle Inspector from the town police Mogilaiah said.
Suresh was not with the family, and it is learnt that he has been on the run from the moneylenders and financiers since a week, Mr. Mogilaiah added.
Everyday visits and demands by the creditors put the ‘calm family’ to shame, and that would have driven them to this extreme step, local sources believed.
A DSP-level police team is working to trace Suresh and find more details regarding the case, Mr. Mogilaiah said.
