Draft irrigation plan for Adilabad submitted to govt.

Adilabad became the first district to submit the District Irrigation Profile to the State Government, after the Zilla Parishad general body approved the draft profile under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) on Wednesday. The general body also resolved to urge the government to declare drought in all the mandals in the district.

At the special general body meeting convened to discuss the two issues, Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer R.V. Karnan explained the salient features of the PMKSY which envisages maximum utilisation of water resources for development of irrigation. He said the plan includes development of irrigation in the 11 blocks, erstwhile units of administration and in the district as a whole.

The profile includes development of water resources, their distribution and management by converging functioning of Irrigation, Agriculture Departments and the District Water Management Agency.

The features include development of rain water harvesting, community water tank development, secondary storage units, development of ground water sources and lift irrigation scheme.

Discussing the drought and resultant crop damage, Ministers Jogu Ramanna and A. Indrakaran Reddy informed the general body that proposals to declare drought in the district have already been submitted to the Government.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson V. Shobha Rani, Government whip Nallala Odelu, MP G. Nagesh, and MLAs Koneru Konappa, Vittal Reddy, Rathod Bapu Rao and A. Rekha Naik also participated in the meeting, besides Collector M. Jagan Mohan and ZP Chief Executive Officer G. Jitender Reddy.
