A kind gesture from a surgeon helped 400 odd mentally and physically challenged children get a beautiful park to play and relax.
Noted ENT surgeon Madisetti Sudeep who frequented the Mallikamba Manovikasa Kendra offering free medical service once in a month was appalled to the see the conditions and an open space adjacent full of filth emanating bad smell. When the Kendra administrators expressed their inability to further develop it, Mr Sudeep got the space converted into a beautiful `Lala Lajpat Roy sensory park’ recreating patoral beauty, lawns and playing instruments.
Mr Lajpat Roy, brother-in-law of Dr. Sudeep, was young a entrepreneur in USA who died of sudden illness two years ago. In his memory, the surgeon has been conducting many charity activities to perpetuate his memory.
Mr Sudeep has been conducting free medical camps for some years in remote Govardhanagiri village in Station Ghanpur every month. He was also offering free services at orphanages and Home for the aged at various places. Inaugurating the park, Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy appreciated the gesture of Mr Sudeep and called upon others to replicate it. Mallikamba Manovikasa Kendra houses over 400 mentally and physically challenged children at its premises at Balasamudram behind Hayagreevachary compound.
A group of young doctors – ophthalmologist P Praveen, pulmonologist A Sridhar, paediatrics specialist M Seshu Madhav and others who attended the programme pledged to do their bit following the suit.
