The four roads passing through the under bridge in the town present an aesthetic look with beautiful paintings on a variety of themes.

This is the only place in the town that makes one to visit again. The district administration spent ₹35 lakh on getting the retaining walls of the under-bridge painted. The walls carry messages on subjects like importance of literacy, good health, dance, culture and yoga among others. Some of the paintings urge people to encourage girl children and others to promote yoga.

Poor conditions

The rest of the Mahabubabad town though quaint looks ugly with narrow roads, heavy rush of people passing through the town. Making things worse are the pigs that move around at will terrifying the pedestrians and motorists in colonies around the railway station. The roads are in a deplorable condition posing a challenge to the road users.

Speaking to The Hindu , Joint Collector K. Damodar Reddy said wall painting was taken up at the behest of District Collector Preeti Meena to give a facelift to the town.

The town was a major gram panchayat that became a third grade municipality and within no time it was made district headquarters of Mahabubabad district, 10 months ago.

“The town lacks basic facilities and it will take some time to make them available,” he said.

The district administration was drawing up plans to widen the existing roads. A detailed project report for the 16 kilometre outer ring road was submitted to the State government. It would connect the two national highways passing through the Mahabubabad town.

Future prospects

“Once the outer ring road is complete, there will be rapid development,” the Joint Collector hoped.

Efforts were on to build District Collector Office complex on 32 acres on the road leading to Maripeda. It would be one kilometer away from the town and is estimated to cost ₹ 30 crore. Similarly the new district police office is coming up on Thorrur road with an estimated outlay of ₹10 crore. It would take at least two years to witness some tangible development in the newly formed Mahabubabad district and headquarters as well, he said.
