Distribution of digital ID cards for auto drivers begins

ID cards to have names of auto drivers and phone numbers of the concerned police officers

The district police on Saturday launched distribution of digitalised ID cards to auto-rickshaw drivers that has all the useful information about the auto and its driver for the benefit of the latter and passengers as well. The computerised ID cards would be given to 4,500 auto-rickshaw drivers. Explaining the features of the ID card at the launch programme here, Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said all auto drivers should register on this online facility by paying Rs. 250. He said the card has the name of the auto driver as well as phone numbers of the concerned police officers and other emergency phone numbers for passengers to access during need. Further, Mr. Duggal said that auto drivers enjoy insurance benefit by paying yearly premium of Rs. 100. In case of death in an accident, the driver gets Rs. 2 lakh and in case of injuries, he/she gets Rs. 1 lakh as insurance, he added.
