Unmindful of the inclement weather condition, the devotees thronged in large numbers to offer prayers to Lord Shiva at the ancient Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada of Karimnagar district on the occasion of the first Monday of the auspicious ‘Shravana’ month. Devotees formed serpentine queues from the early hours and several were seen tonsuring their heads as an offering to the presiding deity. The temple authorities have performed the special “Mahanyasa purvaka ekadasa rudraabhishekam”, in the morning and “Mahalingarchana” in the evening.

The temple authorities said that the Devasthanam had earned a revenue of Rs.22 lakh through sale of various ritual tickets on Monday. Prominent among those who offered prayers at the temple shrine include Civil Supplies Commissioner C Parthasarathi and Yellareddy legislator A Ravinder Reddy.

The Devasthanam authorities said that there would be more rush in the coming auspicious Mondays during this month. The authorities have made all arrangements for the month-long festivities at the temple shrine.

Neela Kanteswar temple

Nizamabad Staff Reporter adds: All temples particularly the Shiva temples were abuzz with spiritual activity with a large number of devotees thronging them Special pujas were performed from the early hours today. The famous Sri Neela Kanteswar temple at Kanteswar and Shambhuni temple at old town here and other temples elsewhere reverberated with the chanting of “Hara Hara Mahadeva” and “Shambho Sankara” by devotees.

Devotees during the Shravanam month do not consume non-vegetarian food and liquor. Some strictly observe this tradition for one full month and some others for 15 days in the Shravanam. Therefore, the sale of non-veg and liquor would come down drastically in this month in the district.
