Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi founder president Manda Krishna Madiga has demanded that the Telangana government should develop the historic Buddhist site at Nelakondapalli into a major tourist hub in south India.
The government should allot Rs. 100 crore per annum as a special grant for developing infrastructure facilities at the historic site and providing amenities to the visitors, he demanded.
He was talking to media persons after visiting the Buddhist stupa in Nelakondapalli on Saturday.
The Buddhist mahastupa at Nelakondapalli has a glorious heritage. It attracted monks from south Asian countries in the bygone era, he noted, emphasising the need for reviving the past glory of the site.
Referring to the reported decision of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to allot Rs. 100 crore every year for the development of Yadagirigutta temple, he said the government should treat all religions equally.
The government should develop the Medak Church, Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad, Jain temple at Kolanupaka in Nalgonda district, and decades-old Gurdwara at Ameerpet in Hyderabad by allotting funds, he said.
He charged the TRS government with denying social justice to weaker sections.
The MRPS will hold a dharna in Warangal on July 8 to press for a charter of demands, including 12 per cent reservation to Muslims as promised by the ruling TRS during the general elections.
