LPG consumers who fail to join the scheme before June 30 will have to forgo their cash subsidy

January 01, 2015 12:44 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:54 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Direct Benefit Transfer scheme for all LPG consumers will be launched in remaining seven districts of Telangana and also the rest of the country, from January 1, and those who do not join the scheme before June 30 will have to forgo their cash subsidy, a press release informed.

As per the scheme, the consumers will have to either link their Aadhaar number to their bank account and LPG connection, or directly link the bank account number with their 17-digit LPG id. Cylinders will be sold at market price, while subsidy of Rs.568 will be paid in advance as soon as the consumer makes the first booking, the press note informed.

Up to March 31, 2015, consumers who do not join the scheme will continue to get cylinder at subsidised price, after which, up to June 30, 2015, their subsidy will be parked with the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), and they will have to buy cylinder at market price. The parked subsidy will be released if the consumers join the scheme before June 30, or else lapse.

From July 1, subsidy will not be admissible to consumers who do not join the scheme. Those joining the scheme after June 30 will get the benefits with prospective and not retrospective effect, the release said.

In the districts where the scheme is already under implementation, those who do not join the scheme will get the cylinder at subsidised price only up to February 14. Since then up to May 14, they will get the cylinder at market price, with cash subsidy parked with OMCs. From May 15, those who do not join would not get the cash subsidy.

For joining the scheme, the consumers have to fill up a form available with distributors or uploaded on ‘www.mylpg.in’. Camps will be set up at various banks and LPG distributors’ premises to enable consumers to open bank accounts and enrol for Aadhaar.

Consumers will receive SMS at every stage, if they register their mobile numbers with the distributor. They are advised to receive cylinders only with cash memos to be assured of subsidy transfer, the note said.

The Telangana State has 70.09 lakh LPG consumers, of which 45.94 lakh have already become Cash Transfer Compliant, it said.
