Crop failure drives two farmers to suicide

Upset over successive crop failure, a farmer ended his life in a state of depression in Wajedu mandal headquarters in Bhadrachalam division on Tuesday.

The police identified the deceased as Kuppa Narasimhulu, 40, a chilli grower of the mandal headquarters town. The incident comes close on the heels of the suicide of another distressed farmer at Komararam in Yellendu mandal on Monday.

Sources said that Narasimhulu had taken three acres of land on lease and sowed chilli a couple of months ago. He suffered huge financial losses due to the failure of his chilli crop for the second consecutive time due to extended dry spell.

He was terribly upset over the mounting financial problems and the future of his children, sources added. Suicide in Adilabad

Adilabad Special Correspondent adds: A farmer from Kumari village in Neredigonda mandal, Penta Narayana, aged about 50 years, committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence on Tuesday apparently perturbed over crop failure.

According to police, he also ran into debts worth Rs. 2.5 lakh.
