CPI(M) dharna at Sagar tomorrow

August 26, 2017 11:48 pm | Updated 11:49 pm IST - KHAMMAM:

The CPI (M) district committees of Khammam and Nalgonda will jointly hold a dharna at the Nagarjunasagar dam site in Nalgonda district on August 28 in protest against the State government’s “failure” to safeguard the riparian rights of the State and protect the interests of the ayacutdars of the major irrigation project, said the party State Executive Committee member P Sudarshan Rao.

In a statement, he said the water level in Nagarjunasagar (NSP) dam has almost reached the dead storage level putting the crop prospects of thousands of ayacutdars at stake.

The TRS government has failed to represent the concerns of the aggrieved ayacutdars of the State with the upper riparian State of Karnataka in the Krishna Basin promptly leaving the ayacutdars of the NSP left canal system in distress in both Nalgonda and Khammam districts, he charged.
