CPI stages dharna

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Kairmnagar district unit leaders staged a massive dharna in front of the office of SRSP CE at Lower Manair Dam (LMD) colony on the outskirts of Karimnagar on Friday demanding the government to complete the SRSP flood flow canal project as per its original design and plan.

The CPI activists led by district secretary K. Ramgopal Reddy and others gathered in front of the CE Anil Kumar’s chambers and raised slogans against the government. Flaying the government for shelving the proposed Thotapalli reservoir as part of the FFC project, the CPI secretary demanded that the government should execute the Thotapalli reservoir to provide water to the upland regions of Husnabad Assembly segment.

Stating that then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao had laid foundation stone for the SRSP flood flow canal in 1993 to provide water to the upland regions of Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda districts, he flayed the government for delay in the completion of the ambitious project.

He demanded that the government should complete the Thotapalli reservoir at the earliest and threatened to intensify their agitational programmes.
