Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday said it was sad that the first Chairman of Telangana Legislative Council was elected in an unfair and unethical manner.
By encouraging defection of several Congress MLCs into its fold the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) had set a bad precedent and it was indication of the insecurity in the ruling party. Talking to reporters, he said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao did not come to the Council to compliment new Chairman K. Swamy Goud as his conscience did not endorse the immoral methods adopted in the election.
He asked the Congress leadership to take action against all MLCs who defected to TRS including Deputy Chairman of the Council N. Vidyasagar, who had voted in favour of Mr. Swamy Goud. He accused the TRS of resorting to more illegal practices in the elections to the chiefs’ posts of urban and rural local bodies.
Mr. Lakshmaiah stated that TPCC would conduct party meetings extensively in the third week of the month and take steps to strengthen the party including taking up a membership drive. Meanwhile, official spokesperson of TPCC Mallu Ravi hailed the Congress bagging 20 urban local bodies chiefs’ posts.
SuspendedThe disciplinary committee of TPCC on Thursday suspended former PCC secretary Chintala Venkateshwar Reddy from the party for six years on the charges of anti-party activities in Nalgonda district. He was charged with working against party candidate for Bhongir Assembly Constituency in the recent elections.
