Cotton corporation staff threaten strike

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - ADILABAD:

The Cotton Corporation of India Employees Union (CCIEU) on Thursday threatened to go on strike by suspending cotton purchase in Adilabad district if working conditions do not improve forthwith. The Union alleged that pressure exerted by various sections of people had begun to tell even on the health of the employees.

The warning, contained in a representation made to the CCI Adilabad Branch Manager Arjun Dave, came in the wake of the Bhainsa Cotton Purchase Officer Balchandra H. Nimje suffering a heart attack during the day. The Union maintained that the officer was working under tremendous pressure from different sections of people.

Mr. Dave appealed to all concerned not to exert pressure on the CCI employees who were only discharging their duties as per given rules. He said the MSP operations were being carried out within the ambit of rules and regulations laid down by the Textile Commissioner.

It may be mention here that the CCI has been constantly in the news facing allegations of irregularities in cotton purchase and other activities. The allegations however, have been denied by the management.
