Old parents of a police constable of Khammam urban police station took to the streets here resenting the alleged hostile attitude of their son towards them.
Konda Mallaiah, 65, and Pulamma, 58, of Reponi village in Warangal district, staged a demonstration at the Dharna Chowk here on Thursday seeking means of subsistence and intervention of the district authorities to end their travails.
Mallaiah, father of Lingaiah, a police constable attached to the Khammam urban police station, sat in front of the Collector’s office complex along with his wife Pulamma till late in the afternoon to highlight their plight.
“We have toiled hard throughout our life, exhausted our hard-earned money and enabled our elder son secure a government job,” said Mallaiah.
“He has now turned hostile towards us leaving us to fend for ourselves, the aggrieved elderly man charged, seeking protection for them as well as their second and third sons, both lower-rung private employees.
When contacted, Mr. Lingaiah refuted his parents’ allegations against him. “I had contributed my share of Rs. 1.50 lakh towards their maintenance, he said, alleging that some close relatives instigated his parents to stage a dharna.
On being contacted over phone, the three-town CI Mogili said that he had counselled the constable when his old parents approached him recently. It was their internal family dispute and moreover the matter was beyond their jurisdiction, he said.
