Constable killed as rifle goes off

An Armed Reserve (AR) constable was killed on the spot in the early hours of Saturday when the rifle he was reportedly cleaning went off at the district treasury office in the Collectorate.

According to P. Rajasekhar, Rural Sub-Inspector, the incident occurred at about 5.45 a.m. when constable S. Ramesh Kumar Reddy (43) was cleaning his rifle. Two of his colleagues who were in the wash room heard the sound and came rushing only to find Ramesh lying in a pool of blood. The bullet had pierced through the heart of Ramesh Kumar.  

Superintendent of Police Semushi Bajpai and DSP K. Venkatesh and others had rushed to the spot and shifted Ramesh to the government hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Ramesh Kumar belongs to Peddajuttur near Pulivendula of Kadapa district and is survived by his wife Saraswathi.  

After postmortem, the body was shifted to his home town for last rites. Sangareddy (Rural police) have registered a case and are investigating.
