Mild tension prevailed in Sangareddy on Tuesday when some Congress workers tried to forcibly enter Collectorate premises protesting over the suspension of Ameenpur sarpanch Kata Srinivas Goud. Alleging that Mr. Goud was suspended on baseless allegations, Congress party workers staged a dharna before the Collectorate at the district headquarters.

The agitation was led by former whip T. Jayaprakash Reddy and District Congress Committee president V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy. Addressing the party workers, they said that Mr. Goud was suspended for his active participation in the recently held party meeting addressed by All India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The demanded that the suspension be revoked immediately.

The Congress leaders were arrested and shifted to a police station. Later, they were released.
