November 19, 2014 12:23 am | Updated 12:23 am IST - KHAMMAM:

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, has asserted that the Congress will espouse the cause of land oustees of the proposed thermal power plant in Manuguru mandal.

Our party leaders, including the elected representatives, will prominently raise the issues concerning the land oustees at various forums to fully protect their interests, he said. He was interacting with the villagers at Sambaiahgudem in Manuguru mandal late on Tuesday evening. The villagers briefed Mr. Lakshmaiah about the imminent danger of losing their fertile lands, which they said fetches them two crops a year. They bemoaned that they were on the verge of foregoing their only source of livelihood owing to the proposed plant. Some villagers from Chikkudugunta and its adjoining habitations wanted the government to ensure payment of adequate compensation, provision of jobs and implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation package well before the start of the work.
