Traffic was disrupted near the Collectorate for a long time on Tuesday due to the rally taken out by the Congress party activists who later staged a dharna at the Collectorate demanding withdrawal of GO 39.

Congress leader and former member of Parliament V. Hanumantha Rao, who led the protest along with former whip T. Jayaprakash Reddy, demanded that the government should withdraw the GO 39 issued to enable formation of Rytu Samanvaya Samithi at the village level.

These samithis are aimed only at strengthening the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at the village level, he said.

Arrested

The Congress leaders were arrested and shifted to police station. Speaking to reporters at police station, Mr. Hanumantha Rao has alleged that the government has been following the anti-people policies and stifling the voice of opposition. He said that the Congress would continue its fight against the government.

As part of a state-wide protest by the opposition parties demanding scrapping of the Government Order No 39, dharnas were held by Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) at Sangareddy, Zaheerabd, Patancheru, Siddipet, Medak and other areas.
