The Telangana Commercial Taxes Joint Action Committee (TCT-JAC) alleged that some officers working for the department and hailing from Andhra Pradesh, who were provisionally given orders to serve Telangana State, were acting against the interests of Telangana and resorting to irregularities affecting the VAT revenue.
In a representation made to the government recently, the JAC functionaries explained that officers hailing from AP were holding as many as 26 high revenue-yielding territorial circle posts in Hyderabad.
The circle officers hold revenue targets, interact with dealers for issuance of way bills and other statutory forms besides taking up advisory visits for checking the bona fides of the dealers.
Since the functions of the officers were related to revenue collection for Telangana, it would be imperative to have officers from Telangana in place for effecting proper VAT revenue collection.
They felt that the job of raising revenue for Telangana should not entrusted to Andhra Pradesh employees whose commitment was dubious.
‘Replace AP officers’They requested the government to replace the AP officers in such key posts with those from Telangana as was done in GHMC recently.
