Allaying the concerns over distribution of sheep and beneficiaries selling their units to traders across the Andhra Pradesh border, District Collector Gaurav Uppal cautioned violators of stringent action here on Friday.

“Complaints and issues of re-sale will be taken seriously. Vigilance teams have been set-up and the police has been informed,” he said. The sheep-selling issue was raised by some MPPs (Mandal Parishad Presidents) at the Zilla Parishad All Member’s meet, the previous day. Nalgonda, which procured sheep units from Prakasam and Guntur districts in Andhra Pradesh, has been consistently ranked at number 1 and 2 in the sheep distribution programme in the State. So far, 2650 units of the 3213 sheep units have been grounded under phase-I distribution.

Speaking to pressmen at the Collectorate here, Mr. Uppal said two check-posts have been arranged, one at the exit point in A.P. and the other near Wadpally in Nalgonda. It was also informed that Macherla, a sheep sale centre till recently, has been discontinued citing reasons of proximity and inter-sale.

Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, C.H. Ramesh also said that utmost transparency was being ensured at all levels. A total of ₹ 30 crore has been expended for the programme till now.

Quality grass seed, to ensure fodder for sheep, has been stocked with various departments and the distribution will soon take place, he added. The officers could be contacted at the following numbers: 18004251442 and 9440454602.
