CLC wants criminal cases booked against Greyhounds

July 03, 2015 05:42 pm | Updated 05:42 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Members of Civil Liberties Commission (CLC) here on Friday demanded that criminal cases be booked against the team of Greyhounds which allegedly killed three Maoists last month in an ‘encounter’ for reportedly violating human rights.

“They shot the boy, Vivek Kumar, from about 15 feet of distance, while the other two were shot a little farther away in the village of Lankapally in Chattisgarh. However, the point here is that no matter how big the crime, criminals cannot be just killed in cold blood,” said Narayan Rao, joint secretary, CLC, here on Friday while addressing a press conference.

Mr. Rao alleged that two other villagers, who were on their way to collect firewood, were stopped and held till the entire operation was done. “In fact, it was ensured that they did not witness how the entire incident transpired. We demand that cases be booked against all the Greyhounds personnel involved in the encounter,” he said.

Pointing out that India was a federal country, Mr. Rao said that the police of one State cannot enter another and carry out such operations without permission. “Also, it is time the government removes the ban on the Communist Part of India (Maoist), so that peace talks can be held, or else these types of incidents will continue to occur,” he stated.
