An argument between a contract lecturer and assistant professor led to fighting at the Kakatiya University examination wing here on Saturday.
The argument between them resulted in boycott of spot valuation of degree answer sheets at the examination wing. Those supporting them staged a demonstration leading to tension on the campus.
According to the police, the contract lecturer named Jula Satyanarayana, who was attending the valuation work, arrived late by an hour. By that time the door of the valuation hall located on the first floor of the examination wing was closed.
Mr. Satyanarayana expressing anger over closure of the door demanded the attendar to open it.
Later, he picked up an argument with the valuation camp officer, A. Narender, an assistant professor, for closing the door.
The heated exchange of words took an ugly turn as both of them came to blows. Mr. Narender was beaten up and suffered bleeding injuries.
Regular staff retaliate
In retaliation, the regular staff present at the valuation hall thrashed Satyanarayana and tore his clothes.
Hanamkonda Circle Inspector V. Kiran and Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Shoban Kumar listened to the versions of both the groups and received complaints from them.

DSP Shoban Kumar said that the contract lecturer wanted a case booked against assistant professor Narender under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. But, the cases would be registered under relevant sections after thoroughly examining the incident, he added.
