It is the time the country focused on imparting value-based education and made children read ancient classics to curb corruption, observed Sahitya Akademi winner Katyayini Vidmahe.
She was addressing students at a workshop on corruption at Arts College, organised by Lok Satta Social Service Organisation here on Tuesday.
“Change is better in any society but a change in value system is not desirable. Values are degenerating with every passing day and corruption becoming rampant in our society,” Prof. Katyayini lamented, advocating a new syllabi based on values at the school and college level.
Referring to the Mahabharata , she said those remaining silent spectators to sin pose a greater threat to society that the actual doer.
Lok Satta advisor Parcha Kodandarama Rao said his organisation had been doing its bit to create awareness among youth, and had organised a series of workshops on corruption in several colleges in Warangal and Hanamkonda in the past fortnight.
“We are mobilising public opinion in favour of an independent Lok Ayukta and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) courts at district-level among others,” he said.
Mr. Rao wanted the government to pass and implement the Citizens Charter Act as it did the Right to Education and Right to Food.
Arts College vice-principal M. Ramanuja Rao, Lok Satta convenor G. Jaganmohan Reddy, B.V. Ramanaiah, NSS programme officers Lalitha and Ramesh Reddy were present.
