In a bid to allay fears about bird flu, the district Animal Husbandry Department and the poultry industry organised a chicken and egg mela at Telangana chowk in Karimnagar on Saturday.

The organisers have erected huge banners and vinyl posters educating people that bird flu would not affect people if they consume chicken and eggs and advised them not to fear about consuming them. Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender, State Cultural Council chairman Rasamayi Balakishan, ZP chairperson Tula Uma, legislators Gangula Kamalakar, Putta Madhukar, Collector Neetu Prasad, Joint Collector Pausumi Basu and others participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the consumption of chicken and eggs would not cause any harm to people and there were no instances of humans being affected by the bird flu. Later, the Minister along with all other dignitaries consumed the chicken on the dais. Later, the organisers distributed fried chicken and other varieties of chicken dishes and boiled eggs to the people. People clamoured to get a pack of their favourite chicken masala and eggs.
