An orientation programme was organised for the chemists by a host of organisations working for prevention of Tuberculosis in India here on Thursday. Eli Lilly and Company, TB Alert India and others working in MDR TB Partnership project urged the chemists to sensitise prospective patients and take them to the government hospitals at initial stages. In Warangal, the project is being implemented in five mandals since 2012 and over 70 chemists were brought together on Thursday to empower them further on the issue.

Senior Manager of Lilly, Ms Sunitha Prasad said TB was contagious and one person affected with the disease could spread it to 10 or more persons and hence the need to prevent it. Chief executive of TB Alert India, Mr Vikas Panibatla said as many as 531 people with TB like symptoms were referred to Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme by chemists.
