The city police registered cases under Preventive Detention Act against six persons who were robbing women and creating a law and order problem.

Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said they booked persons belonging to Shambunipet — Md Biyabani, Sk. Younis, Md. Salim, Md. Alimuddin, Md. Mukthar and Md. Yakub under sub Section (3) of the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Dacoits, Drug Offender, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Land Grabbers Act of 1986 (Act No 1 of 1986).

As per the Act the accused would not be given any bail and had to undergo imprisonment for one year.

The accused were involved in chain snatching in colonies on outskirts of the city. “They were targeting women moving alone in colonies during lean hours and snatching chains,” the Commissioner said. The PD Act would be used against those selling spurious seeds and grabbing government lands in the city, he added.
