The BJP leaders Indrasena Reddy, G Premender Reddy and A Ashok Reddy demanded that the State Government should make an announcement that the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 would be celebrated officially.

Speaking to mediapersons, they said that the governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka were celebrating officially and wanted similar celebrations in the Telangana State too.

Mr Indrasena Reddy said that Chandrasekhar Rao who spoke volumes about culture and history of Telangana was now refusing to acknowledge the sacrifices made by scores of men and women during the Telangana liberation struggle.

“To divert the attention of people, the TRS government is enacting another drama in the name of Bathukamma. We welcome the official celebration of Bathukamma. But the government is involving only TRS party sympathisers or cadre of Telangana Jagruthi and ignoring others. Our party will protest,” Indrasena Reddy said.

‘Hoodwinking people’

By hurling profanities at the leaders of Andhra Pradesh or the Opposition the TRS government or the Chief Minister cannot divert the attention of Telangana people from problems, Indrasena Reddy said. He should stop abusing leaders of other political parties and instead pay attention to people’s problems.

He is hoodwinking people with false promises, Mr. Reddy added.

Describing KCR as the most ineffective leader who did nothing in three months, he said that people would soon realise this and revolt against the TRS government. Mr Premender Reddy said hundreds of SC and BC beneficiaries were identified by the SC and BC corporations a year ago but the new government did not release Rs. 150 crore needed for loans to the youth.

The TRS government was planning to cancel the selected candidates and fill it with its party workers, he alleged.

Memorandum to Collector

Special Correspondent from Karimnagar adds: The BJP district unit in a memorandum to the Collector M Veerabrahmaiah here on Monday urged the government to make an announcement in this regard.

District president M Arjun Rao, general secretary B Jaganmohan Rao, party leaders T Harikumar Goud, Swapna and others stated that the government should celebrate the Telangana Liberation day as Telangana independence day.

They also said that they would celebrate the Liberation day on September 17 at police parade grounds if the government fails to do so.

Take out rally

Nizamabad Special Correspondent adds: Party cadres demanded the Government to celebrate the day officially. Former MLA Yendala Lakshminarayana wanted to know why the Government was hesitating to celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day and why KCR was keeping quite after coming to power. Neither the TRS nor its Chief Minister was interested in talking about the significance of the Day after the Telangana formation, he said.

Earlier the BJP leaders took out a procession up to the Collectorate where they submitted a memorandum to the Collector (in-charge) P. Rajaram.

Meanwhile, in a separate programme on the same demand the TGVP activists attempted to lay siege to the Collectorate, but the police foiled their attempts.

The TGVP activists echoed the same demand at different towns across the district.
