In order to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims visiting Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy devasthanam in Vemulawada of Karimnagar district, the district police, in association with devasthanam authorities, have decided to install CCTV cameras for surveillance of the temple shrine.

Vemulawada legislator Ch. Ramesh Babu has already released Rs. 9 lakh from the constituency development fund for installing CCTV cameras in Vemulawada town, Nampally shrine and Thippapur village. Following the successful functioning of CCTV cameras, the police and the devasthanam authorities have decided to install the cameras on the temple premises for the safety of pilgrims and also to check irregularities of the temple staff.

The Vemulawada devasthanam has released Rs. 4.75 lakh for setting up 25 CCTV cameras, including high frequency cameras which can capture images from a distance of 30 metres.

The authorities are also installing rotating cameras for surveillance of the movement of suspected persons in queues, and also to check dubious activities of devasthanam employees who resort to reselling 'kode mokku', prasadam and other ritual tickets.

Control room

Devasthanam authorities said that all the cameras would be monitored from the control room being set up at the Special Protection Force (SPF) police station, and the offices of the devasthanam executive officer and assistant executive officer.

The police said that the CCTV surveillance would help check various offences in the temple shrine.
