But there is hope…

February 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

If all goes well and the plan works successfully without any hindrance, over 26 lakh people residing in 1,645 habitations will get 100 litre protected water per day per person in the district by 2018.

Under the Rs.40,000 crore ambitious water grid scheme named Mission Bhagiratha, plans have been chalked out to spend an estimated amount of Rs. 2,650 crore in the district. The scheme would be implemented through two water grids – Pochampad grid and Singur grid. Through the former, water would be supplied to villages in Armoor, Balkonda, Kamareddi, and some parts of Yellareddi and Nizamabad Assembly constituencies, for which Rs. 1,350 crore would be spent.

For the villages in the backward Jukkal constituency, water would be given through the Singur grid by spending Rs.1,300 crore. Plans are afoot to complete the Pochampad grid by October 2017, while the Singur grid would be completed by April 2018.

Since the Government of Telangana has taken this project as a prestige issue, it is making efforts to convince the Forest, Revenue, National Highways, Roads and Buildings, Panchayat Raj, Electricity and Railway Departments to give clearances immediately for the speedy execution of Mission Bhagiratha.

Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy said that the joint survey with Forest, Railway and Electricity departments was already over, and there were no objections from the Revenue Department. For the Electricity Department to build 40 transformers, an amount of Rs. 6 crore was paid in advance, he said.

As part of the project, works of three overhead BR tanks at Mallannagutta in Sadasivanagar mandal and sump works near Balkonda mandal headquarters have been in progress, he said, adding that he asked the authorities concerned to expedite the pipeline laying works and construction of overhead tanks in Armoor, Balkonda, Nizamabad, Kamareddi and Yellareddi constituencies.
