BSNL Andhra Pradesh Circle is gearing up for the ensuing ‘Godavari Pushakarams ’ in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by installing more cellular towers to provide better connectivity to pilgrims.

In a free-wheeling chat with The Hindu here on Saturday, V. Srinivasan, Chief General Manager, AP Circle, said that BSNL would install around 25 to 30 cellular towers in all the temple towns on the banks of river Godavari during pushkarams , which would be held from July 14. Mobile towers (cell on wheels) would also be installed to meet the growing traffic.

In Karimnagar district, they would install three towers at Dharmapuri temple shrine, two towers at Kaleshwaram and one at Koti Lingala shrine in Velgatoor mandal. Similarly, towers would be also installed at Basar and Bhadrachalam and a record 15 towers would be installed in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh which would witness a huge congregation of devotees. BSNL would set up stalls selling recharge coupons and SIM cards at all the temple shrines.

Asked about the mobile phone expansion programme and upgradation to 4G network, Mr. Srinivasan said they had installed 3G service network, which has the capacity to expand to 4G with simple adjustments. “As and when we go for expansion, we will upgrade the network to 4G,” he added. An aggressive marketing campaign was being planned at the local level to send out the message that the BSNL service was cost effective.

BSNL broadband service was most dependable in the country, he said. A reconnection mela would be organised in the AP Circle from February 21 to bring back all the past landline customers.

Earlier, the CGM conducted a review meeting with the district authorities.

Later, he visited the Vemulawada temple and Sri Laxminarasimha Swamy temple in Dharmapuri along with Karimnagar General Manager P. Sudhakar Rao.
