Some factories sharing the same fate

February 05, 2015 01:07 pm | Updated October 05, 2016 03:55 am IST - ADILABAD:

The Cement Corporation of India (CCI), Adilabad unit, completely stopped cement production in 1998 after running for over a decade. It had 450 regular employees and workers and 1,000 workers on contract who fell on bad times due to suspension of production.

There were instances when the women family members of workers in the closed CCI unit resorted to sex work to make ends meet. The unit still has about 80 employees on its rolls, who are hopeful of revival of the cement plant despite the passage of such a long time since its closure.
