The BJP Karimnagar district unit has decided to stage ‘Maha dharna’ in front of the Collectorate on Monday in protest against the State government’s “failure” in taking up drought relief measures and stop migration of labourers.
Disclosing this to newsmen here on Saturday, BJP Kisan Morcha national secretary P Sugunakar Rao, State vice-president G Ramakrishna Reddy, district president M Arjun Rao said that BJP State president and legislator K Laxman would participate in the dharna.
Govt. flayed
They flayed the State government for blaming the Centre on the release of funds for the drought relief measures when the government had released Rs. 791 crore.
Distress sale
Expressing concern over acute drought conditions prevailing in the district, they said that the farmers were resorting to distress sale of cattle due to non-availability of fodder and water.
They alleged that the State government had diverted Sripada Yellampalli project waters to Hyderabad and Medak district betraying the people of Karimnagar district, which was the epicentre of Telangana statehood movement. They also found fault with the government for not declaring drought in entire district and causing huge loss to the farmers.
