BJP to counter Congress campaign on farm suicides

May 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - ADILABAD:

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Adilabad district has spurred the BJP into action. Prior to Mr. Gandhi’s visit, the party intends to ‘expose’ the earlier UPA government’s failure in controlling farmer suicides across the country.

Bharatiya Kisan Morcha national secretary M. Sugunakar Rao will address two meetings of farmers on Thursday at Mancherial and on Friday at Adilabad town, in connection with creating awareness on the Land Acquisition Bill of the NDA government. He will also talk about the failure of the Congress-led UPA-I and UPA-II in taking steps to prevent farmer suicides.

“We are also holding a protest at Hyderabad,” he said. “We will demand an explanation on why the Congress is moving to give financial aid to only a few farmers in Adilabad district during Mr. Gandhi’s visit,” he added.
