BJP workers led by party’s former MLA Yendala Lakshminarayana, on Saturday, staged a dharna in front of the police station at Varni mandal headquarters demanding an impartial investigation into the suspicious death of a youth Sankar, who was a beggar and small time worker at hotels at Badapahad dargah, on February 10.

Earlier, they took out a rally in the town protesting against the alleged apathy of the police and suspicious role of the local SI in the case. Among those who participated in the rally and dharna included the BJP district president Palle Ganga Reddy, senior leaders Alur Ganga Reddy, Dhanpal Suryanarayana and Lingam. Addressing the gathering Mr. Lakshminarayana alleged that the police under political pressure hesitated to speed up investigation and arrest the culprits. He said the youth’s death was not natural and was tortured before being murdered for his offence of stealing hundred rupees.
